Victoria
Falls / Livingstone Town
Livingstone - the tourism
capital of Zambia and the adventure capital
of Africa - can be reached by road, air and rail from Lusaka
and has direct flights from South Africa making it an easy
destination for travels from all over the world.
Highlight of any trip to Livingstone is
the mighty Victoria Falls, one of the seven wonders of the world. Only
five kilometers from Livingstone town centre, some of the best views of
the falls are to be seen from the Zambian side where the kilometer wide
Zambezi river plunges 100 meters into the Batoka Gorges.
The
town of Livingstone itself is a small colonial style town named after
the explorer, David Livingstone. Amenities for tourists have improved
over the recent years and accommodation can be found in all budget
ranges, from the 5 star opulence of the Royal Livingstone Hotel to the
various backpackers lodges dotted around the town. Numerous safari style
lodges can be found within easy reach of the town, with many of these
being situated on the banks of the Zambezi itself.
Livingstone boasts of many adventure
activities available for the less faint hearted and for the less
adventurous there are a number of interesting sites to visit. These
include the Livingstone Museum, the Railway Museum, Mukuni Village and
the Mosi-O-Tunya Zoological park where you will have a good chance of
viewing the now very rare white rhino.
