SHUMBA CAMP
Busanga Plains ~ Kafue National Park
Shumba, literally translated, means "lion" because it is situated at
the "place of lions" on the Busanga Plains.
Huge, shady fig trees
provide the setting for Shumba, with its distinctive, high viewing
platform overlooking the flood plain. From here, the sight of large
buffalo herds and rare lechwe, intermingled with puku, crested and
wattled cranes, is one you will not forget.
Simple and welcoming,
the camp offers itself as an outstanding safari base. There are four
individual chalets built of local materials in sympathy with their
setting, and with separate toilet facilities and star-lit showers.
The Busnga Plain - an immense wilderness to
discover
The Plains are unique, a paradise for birds
converging here to mate, knowing the area is not easily accessible
to man. So much animal and bird life flourishes here throughout the
year.
They are drawn to the Plains by its life sustaining waters.
Hard on their heels come the predators, the lions, leopards,
cheetahs, wild dogs and hyenas. The chances of seeing these cats in
action are always good.
